The change in temperature and kids pants that are suddenly two inches too short can only mean one thing (ok maybe two). It’s fall and it’s time for a kids fall clothing refresh!
Did you catch my spring refresh guide? Same concept, warmer clothes. I like to do these sort-throughs during the transition seasons before Mother Nature gets really crazy.
First you’ll need to have a try-on session. Set aside anything that no longer fits, is in bad shape, or hasn’t been worn. It’s a waste to keep things around that are never used – a waste of space and waste of a perfectly good piece of clothing some other child could be wearing. Once you’ve narrowed down what is staying you will know exactly what needs to be filled in. (See the list below for recommended items.)
After the try-on session is the time to add new pieces back in. I’m definitely a minimalist when it comes to kids clothing. For example, all three of my kids (aged 8, 8, and 3) have one drawer each for warm weather and cold weather. And it’s exactly enough for us. Think of this as a capsule wardrobe for your kids. A capsule wardrobe is a small number of quality items that can be easily mixed and matched to suit your child’s style. Most importantly, this approach has saved us time getting ready each morning!
I’ll be using the list below to fill in wardrobe pieces for the fall. When deciding on the right number of each item for your family be sure to consider your laundry schedule, regular activities, and local weather.
