Honey, I Shrunk the Kids was a memorable movie from my childhood and seemed like the obvious choice for our next family movie night. The food theme may be a bit obvious (small everything) but when you want to throw together something quickly this one does the trick. Basically, you can’t go wrong with Rick Moranis and mini foods. Our Honey I Shrunk the Kids movie themed menu included:
- Sliders. We went with cheeseburgers but you could serve any small sandwiches. Baked slider sandwiches are easy and tasty, or simple finger sandwiches work too!
- Mini Mac n’ Cheese cups. These are pretty simple and delicious. Essentially prepare homemade macaroni and cheese but instead of baking in a pasta dish pack it in mini muffin tins. They pop right out and are a perfect bite size side.
- Ants on a Log. The main thing I remembered about the movie was the giant ant the kids befriended.
- Mini Baked Potatoes. How cute are these?? Bake some new potatoes, cut a piece out of one side and top with cheese, sour cream, chives, or butter (I made mini pads).
- Fruit… because I’m still trying to promote some sort of nutrition. Also, can we consider blueberries as mini grapes? That may be a stretch.
- Ant-topped Cupcakes. Not mini because Anty was giant to the miniature kids. I made regular chocolate cupcakes, bought some green frosting, and topped it with these ant cake toppers {affiliate link}. There just happened to be green frosting at the store because it’s close to St. Patricks Day. If you’re not so lucky, just mix green food coloring with white frosting or make your own.

Other options I considered were mini corn dogs, bagel bites, and shoestring fries. I also attempted to make mini caramel apples but that was a miserable failure. Consider yourself warned.
