Welcome to our Moana picnic night! We started doing Friday family movie nights that included a picnic dinner – and my kids LOVED it. When I’m feeling extra fancy (and have more time) the food is movie-inspired. Naturally, I hit up Pinterest for ideas but it’s hard to find anything other than birthday treats! Sugary treats are great, but we needed some more options for a legit dinner.
Moana kicks off the countdown to our own tropical family vacation (the first as a family of 5!) and the menu is SO. MUCH. FUN. To make it extra-extra special, iDesign provided a turntable and divided lazy susan for added presentation points.

Menu:
Tamatoa Calzones
This crabby character is the main course. To make, bake a calzone as you normally would but smoosh (pro chef term) the dough into a crescent shape after folding in half. Attach google eyes to toothpicks, add carrot legs, and you’ve got yourself a crab.

Outrigger Jello Cups
Moana would not be complete without the ocean and neither would our meal. Set Berry Blue Jell-O (one package makes 4 servings) in 9 oz plastic cups. Add half a chocolate wafer for the boat with a paper sail attached to a toothpick.

Te Ka Lava Fruit Dip
Let’s get real, it’s just regular fruit dip with red food coloring – but it’s still fun! Cut up your favorite fruit and put everything in a divided lazy susan. No matter where you end up sitting just spin, grab, and dip for the perfect bite.

Heart of Te Fiti Cake Pops
These were my first attempt at making cake pops and I think they turned out pretty great. I picked up two shades of green candy melts to get the effect. (You can find the cake pop and fruit dip recipes in my “Movie Night” Pinterest board)

Kakamora Fruit Punch
Those little coconut characters are adorable and terrifying (like my 3 year old). I found these coconut cups at Party City, created the faces in Silhouette Studio, and printed them on sticker paper (you could also do this with paint or regular craft paper).

Movie night was a hit! I love making these unique memories with my kids – for them and me. What movie do you want to see next???
