With the new Lion King releasing this week I thought it would be fun to enjoy the original with a themed movie night. I loved the movie growing up and will sing ALL the songs, so “be prepaaaaared” for a fun Lion King picnic and movie night!
No family movie night would be complete without a special menu. Here’s what we served.
Warthogs in a Blanket
Hot dogs wrapped in crescent rolls = easy and cute. I topped them off with a slice of hot dog decorated with a drop of food coloring applied with a toothpick for the perfect warthog snout.

Hakuna Ma-Tater Tot-A
Hakuna Matata is probably the best song in the movie and tater tots are arguably the best form of potato. It was just mean to be. Just add a few dipping sauce options on the side and it’s good to go.
Mufasa Fruit Platter
Scar wanted nothing more than Mufasa’s head on a platter in the movie. While I can’t get behind Scar, I can support some Mufasa plate art with fruit. Strawberries, raspberries, and mango made the perfect mane. I printed an image found online for the head and made it fruit-proof by sliding it inside a plastic folio cut to size.

Dirt & Grubs
The Prideland’s version of dirt and worms is “slimy, yet satisfying”! To recreate this dish all you need is instant chocolate pudding, crushed oreos, and gummy worms served in cocktail cups.

We definitely felt the love tonight!
